One of the favorite wintertime activities in Yarmouth is skating on a frozen pond near the center of town. For many years, a dilapidated concrete block shelter with a corrugated metal roof served as the warming hut for skaters.
I decided that the town would benefit from a better facility that had plenty of benches for lacing skates and a brick fireplace for warming hands and feet. The Village Improvement Society decided to fund the project.
Building materials were carefully researched in order to find components that would be fire resistant and durable. Bricks for the fireplace were donated by LaChance Brick Company and structural engineering services were donated by Baker Design Consultants.
