This house straddles the ridge a hill overlooking Big Sturgeon Lake. Big Sturgeon is a beautiful sandy-bottomed lake in northern Minnesota. The site is covered with mature Norway pine trees. Fortunately, there was a natural opening in the tree coverage large enough to insert a small, year-round house.
The Owners are a retired couple and were interested in having the living spaces and master bedroom/bathroom on the main level. The upper level and daylight basement have bedrooms and bathrooms for when the extended family visits.
The layout is a simple, open plan with cathedral ceilings, clerestory windows and a Jotul wood burning stove as the main focus. The interior and exterior are covered in horizontal red cedar.
